Conducting your own laboratory-level study may be out of the question, so how do you know whether or not a supplement is worth taking?
We have outlined what to look for – and why CarnoSyn® is the athlete’s secret weapon that can be relied on.
What should I look for when purchasing a supplement?
When it comes to investing in supplements, you should know what you’re buying. ‘A fool and his money are easily parted’, as the old saying goes.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) evaluate statements made on supplements, but the FDA monitor supplements passively, so cannot explicitly suggest that you should purchase something or not.
A fact you will commonly find stated on packaging.
Don’t let that dissuade you from stocking up though.
There are supplements that genuinely boost your athletic performance. To find them, look for the labels that matter.
Indicators of quality
The endorsement of a supplement by a famous face doesn’t usually correspond to quality.
A brand may have paid for your favorite bodybuilder or athlete to endorse a product, but a better barometer of effectiveness is the scientific data in its favor.
Generic ingredients often produce generic or below-average results.
For example, products containing sub-standard beta-alanine are often guilty of under-dosing and so the true boost to athletic performance will not be felt.
CarnoSyn® beta-alanine is manufactured under a stringent quality control process, and certified by national and international agencies to be safe and effective.
Trial and error: knowing how a product works
Conducting a lab-based study can cost thousands of dollars, and the vast majority of people don’t possess the capability to fund or undertake this level of research.
Nevertheless, it is still possible to judge whether a product is worth taking. Arguably the most obvious but effective method of assessing a supplement’s quality is trial and error.
There is no better way to test whether or not a supplement will work for you than by…you’ve guessed it, trying it yourself.
Word of caution: be sensible and seek medical advice first. If you’ve got pre-existing cardiovascular problems then it’s not a wise idea to trial a supplement that increases your heart rate and production of adrenaline.
Consult your doctor as to whether or not a supplement will interact with your health or any medication you’re currently taking.
