With great power comes great responsibility – being the Liverpool soccer captain, Jordan Henderson leads by example. Here’s how he eats and trains to maintain a winning strength and intensity on the pitch

Body

Most of my training comes from football and while I can’t let you in on our exact sessions, training is intense. A mixture of distance running with high intensity interval sprints gets your body in condition for the high tempo football we play. We then move on to football drills involving passing and shooting. I do enjoy circuit training in the off-season but we’re back to pre-season a few weeks later.

Mind

It’s a very high intensity style of training and this is geared towards maintaining our high tempo playing style over 90 minutes in a football match. It’s rare that we leave anything in the tank during our training session but we do taper the intensity off closer to match day so that we can recover and be fresh for the game.

Belly

My nutrition is very important. I eat well, even away from the football pitch. I don’t count calories or macronutrients but at the club, we have a nutritionist who prepares our meals and ensures that we get the right amount of proteins, carbs and fats to fuel and recover from our training. After training is also where I consume my Maximuscle Promax Bar.

Soul

I’ve been playing football since I was 5 years old when I’d have a kick-about with my dad in the garden and I don’t stop training, even in the off-season – I still need to workout and maintain what I have ready to go again for the pre-season.
